Bloom Patrol

I live in paradise aka  heaven on earth!

I know why we choose to live here.  I moved to Victoria in 1974 to attend UVic and stayed.  I also understand why we have the world come to visit us on our island.  Folks from across Canada who are experiencing snow, view the flower photos we post on all the social media sites.  Seeing flowers at any stage of bloom always invites me to take their portrait!  Spring begins early in Victoria, rhodos are often seen in bloom around Christmas!  I don’t post flower photos to make people jealous, I do it to bring a smile to folk’s faces.

I love snow and have worked at a ski resort, however white is not a colour,  and flowers always sing and dance  in a rainbow of colours for me!  This past week on my daily walks around the Capital Regional District many colours spoke to me.  I share a few delights with you!  Year round the bouquet of flowers blooming changes, the only constant is that we have flowers in bloom 365 days year!

In the past I usually only took photos of my passion – flowers, hence the name of my greeting card business, PeridoTulips, combining my love of tulips and the colour and gemstone, peridot!  Now I see beyond the blooms and there is so much that fascinates me.  Flowers are the perfect gift to give a loved one, friend  or colleague, either in person or virtually!

This afternoon I stopped at a neighbourhood flower stand, which a couple in their 80’s share their passion of what they grow in their yard.  I had a delightful chat with the gentleman about our mutual love of flowers.  It was the perfect way to end my day, which included a promise to return to see what his garden is producing next week.

Friends need to have patience with me on a walk, as I stop often to capture an eyeful of the miracle of what nature presents us!  I love architecture, street art, BIG colour…beyond the usual gems of our area.

In future posts you will see what my eye via my iPhone captures, as our environs contributes so much uniqueness.  I love sharing the community of Victoria with our visitors from around the world, that is what keeps us afloat!  Our smiles, kindness, colourful personalities, and local markets are some of the bliss of why we are such a  popular destination!
