Hats – Wearable Sculptures

By  |  0 Comments

Wearing a hat today is one of art or ‘wearable sculpture’ and function. If you are having a bad hair day, it’s a no brainer because all you do is put your mane in a pony tail and slap on a hat, and you are good to go.

Hats have always been about a look that is very alluring and intriguing all at the same time. They seem to have that timeless elegance about them which immediately gives you that pumped up confidence boost, that happens when you don a hat.

Just take a look at the runway Fashion Shows where all the top Designs Houses use Hats as a great accessory that immediately adds drama and flair to their fashion shows.

But hats as we all know have an interesting history because they were originally worn for protection against the elements, ceremonial occasions, religious reason, safety and as a fashion accessory.

Hats today protect our skin from the harmful effects of the sun, and much needed heat relief. A hat can shield you from the sun’s harmful sunburn-causing UV (ultraviolet) rays. Any dermatologist will tell you to wear a hat and sun protective clothing in addition to slathering on every 2 hours sunscreen protection.

The best choice is a Wide-Brimmed Hat and the wider the better. The brim should be at least 3 inches or greater and cover areas where it is difficult to apply sunscreen. These areas will include the scalp, top of the ears and the back of the neck.

Now the Floppy Hat is great for protecting your face, ears and neck just make sure to stay away from those made of straw. As the holes in them will let in harmful UV rays. Look for fabric choices that have been rated with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of 25 or higher.

Finally we have the Bucket Hat, and you don’t need to know how to fish to wear one 🙂 This classic hat has been revamped and has gotten a modern update to show off bold colours and can be worn on a male or a female.

I hope that you found this helpful and if you would like some additional information on finding the right HAT for your lifestyle, then just check out my Accessories board on Pinterest for some inspiration, or just contact me at Linda Ferguson Designs.

everyone stops to coo and talk about it.”
