A Quickie Resto Review – Little Jumbo

The first thing to notice about this trendy eatery on Fort Street in Victoria BC, is its entry point.   Easily missed if looking for a store front with huge signage, instead, a single door located inside a building hallway is the way into this tiny oasis.

Little Jumbo, was the meet-up destination for a friend and I.   They open their doors promptly at 5pm and we were  immediately enchanted and delighted to be the first inside.  A true #PeacockMoment

Its ‘speakeasy’ styling created an intimacy that cocooned us from the busy-ness of the world.  We loved it!

This space fits the bill on so many levels.  I should also note it was awarded the design award for ‘Best Commercial Design 2014 – Vancouver Island‘, therefore another good reason to drop in.  The toned down lighting, brick walls, mellow tunes, an incredibly appropriate menu and the ‘wall of bottles’ denoting a special knowledge and pride in the art of mixology all came together to make good times in a hip atmosphere.

Bartender Nate Caudle, brought the goods.  His knowledge of pairings, flavour tones and expert drink prep enchanted us ladies as he regaled us with tales of wine, lagers and gin.   He made the visit worthwhile.

Happy Hour deals and nibbles are on par and different from the usual pub fare.  If going for dinner, calling ahead for reservations are a good idea due to its size and popularity.

The next time you’re looking for a quaint interlude after work, check out Little Jumbo, it’s the little place that delivers in a mighty big way.
