Skirt It With An Attitude

By  |  0 Comments

Skirts lengths have been going up and down for decades just like the economy. However, the key to investing in a great skirt is finding one that ROCKS. There are so many flattering styles to choose from, that most women forget about the choices that are available to them.

Of course we have our basic standards like the pencil, single front pleat, straight, flared, A-line, pleated, wrap and circle skirts just to name a few.

But skirt length questions are always a popular conversation with my clients. I tell them that they should avoid styles that are higher than three inches about their knee, even if the trend at the moment is ultra-short.

We know that a skirt that hits the widest part of your calf will make your legs look shorter and thicker – giving you that “frumpy” look. So to solve that problem, hem the skirt to hit the middle of your knee. That way we have the top taper of your calf revealed and this will give your leg a longer and shapelier look.

For the exact right length of a long skirt, it is critical that it is an inch from the floor. Drapey long skirts should be especially fitted through the hip area so that your shape does not get lost in all that fabric. Flat shoes are perfect for the long skirt because they are comfortable and the long skirt adds a hit of elegance to your outfit.

When you are wearing a pencil skirt with boots, keep in mind that it is most flattering if you reveal some leg in between the hem of your skirt and the top of your boot. Making sure that the top of the boot fits snugly around your calf will have you looking a runway model.

“Fashion is born by small facts, trends or even politics, never by trying to make little pleats, buying trinkets or clothes that are easy to copy, or by the shortening or lengthening of a skirt.”
